Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy (CP) is caused by damage to the developing brain before, during or after birth, up until approximately two years of age. It can affect the parts of the brain involved in the production and control of posture and movement, and may result from trauma such as (but not limited to):

- Haemorrhaging (bleeding)
- Lack of oxygen
- Abnormal brain development
- Infection during pregnancy
- Genetic disorder
- Accident or infection after birth

Many children with CP have difficulty with movement, with some being more severely affected than others, and can have learning difficulties and problems with feeding, speech, vision and hearing.
