Early Intervention
Admission to our early intervention programme
Welcome to Craighalbert! We have developed a range of programmes for children aged 0-5 years with complex communication, learning, health and care needs, and their families.

Children who participate are considered at significant risk of, have a suspected or have a confirmed diagnosis of a neurological condition e.g. Rett Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Complex Epilepsy, Syndromes without a Name (SWAN), Rare Genetic Conditions, Acquired Brain Injury, Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), Perinatal Stroke, Global Development Delay.

We are unable to support the abilities and needs of young children with a primary diagnosis of autism or another neurodivergent condition e.g. ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, dyspraxia.
Find out more

There are several ways to get in touch if you would like to find out more about our early intervention programmes:
submit an enquiry using our online form
We will do our very best to respond to your enquiry without undue delay, i.e. within 10 working days.
Come and see
If we think that your child and you may benefit from participation in our early intervention programme, we will invite you to visit Craighalbert to observe a session, meet some of our team and/ or have a tour of our facilities.

Please bring your child with you. This will give us a first chance to meet them and start to assess their abilities and needs.

A visit generally lasts 1-1.5 hours so if you decide to bring your child, please also bring everything they might need; this might include a favourite toy, something to eat and drink or equipment for enteral feeding, things you may need to manage their health (medication, suction machine, oxygen etc), nappies and a change of clothes, their buggy or wheelchair.
Join music space @ Craighalbert
If after your visit we agree that Craighalbert is the right place to support your child’s early learning and development, we will invite you both to participate in an initial block of music space sessions.

Please note, you do not need a referral from your child’s neurologist, paediatrician, GP, health visitor or another professional, nor their agreement to fund your participation. We know how important early intervention is so, to minimise any delay in accessing our programmes, we fundraise to allow us to provide access free-of-charge to parents.
We will ask you to provide:
-
Personal details and contact details for your child’s wider multi-disciplinary team - CHILD’S PLAN PARTS 1-2
-
Copies of any recent medical or therapeutic clinic reports and assessments
-
Consent to photography and filming. - CONSENT FORM
Ongoing assessment process
Participation in a block of music space sessions provides an extended opportunity for you to learn more about our early intervention programme and for the Craighalbert team to assess your child’s abilities and needs. We will agree shared goals for your child with you and identify the best context in which to support their next steps in learning and development; this may be through participation in a further block of music space, participation in another component of our early intervention or referral to another service provider.

We understand that identifying appropriate support for a young child with emerging and/ or evolving communication, learning, health and care needs can be difficult. If you have any questions or if there is anything at all you would like to discuss further, please get in touch with us. Our team is here to offer all the support, guidance, and reassurance you need to make an informed decision.
