Craighalbert Nursery

A Nurturing Start:
Where Every Child’s Potential is Nurtured and Celebrated

At Craighalbert, we believe that every child has the potential to grow, learn, and achieve, no matter the challenges they face. Our specialist nursery is a place of warmth, care, and possibility, where children with complex communication, learning, health, and care needs are supported to thrive.

Our nursery offers a rich and stimulating environment where learning happens everywhere; through play, exploration, and carefully designed experiences that spark curiosity and delight. Our outdoor spaces provide endless opportunities for adventure, movement, and sensory discovery, while our custom designed facilities ensure every child can participate fully, safely, and comfortably.

A Team That Understands Your Child

We know that your child is unique, and so is our approach. Our highly skilled and nurturing staff work in partnership with families to create an individualised plan that supports your child’s strengths, interests, and needs. With dedicated support from our on-site team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists, every child receives personalised care and attention, ensuring their development is supported in a way that feels natural and engaging.

Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Whether through assistive technology, individualised visual supports, or specialist AAC devices, we empower children to express themselves, make choices, and connect with the world around them. Every small success is celebrated, and every milestone is a step towards greater independence and confidence.

Your Child’s Journey Starts Here

As a parent, you want to know that your child is safe, happy, and receiving the best possible care. At Craighalbert, we are more than a nursery, we are a community. A place where families are valued as key partners, where your aspirations for your child are shared and nurtured, and where together, we can help them reach their full potential.

With the right support, your child can achieve more than you ever imagined. Let us show you what’s possible.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy aspires to ensure that all the children we work with led full and happy lives.

We focus on helping them participate in meaningful activities (occupations) they need and want to do at school, at home and at play.

We work with children and young people, families, school staff, and the wider team to help overcome challenges relating to daily life activities.

Assessment Process

We understand that children’s needs and abilities are diverse and can evolve over time, so we take a flexible and supportive approach to exploring placements in our nursery and school.

We offer specialist education and therapy for children with complex communication, learning, health, and care needs. If you are interested in a nursery or school place, the first step is to contact us to arrange a visit and an initial discussion. This allows our team to get to know your child and family circumstances, and for you to learn more about our approach.

Following this, an assessment will take place to help determine whether a Craighalbert placement would be suitable and beneficial for your child. If a placement is recommended, families will be supported through the process of submitting a placing request to their local authority.

We know this journey can feel overwhelming, and our team will be here to guide and support you every step of the way.

“My child's nursery placement at the Craighalbert Centre has increased her confidence, communication, attention span and she has created relationships with staff and peers that make her incredibly happy. The staff at the centre ensures that the children are safe, happy and thriving in all areas of their development. They know every child is different and allow them to be who they need to be by reducing the barriers to their physical health, mental health and their education.
