Health

Enhancing wellbeing through holistic, child-centred support that meets individual health needs

At Craighalbert, our staff work closely with each child’s specialist NHS services to provide integrated, individualised care.

Most of our children have a variety of healthcare plans, such as Seizure Management Plan (SMP), Breathing Management Plan (BMP,) CYPADEM, and ACP. We ensure that all staff working with them are familiar with these plans and competent to provide the highest standard of care.

For many children, seizures are, unfortunately, a regular part of life and may occur frequently. Providing services to children with complex healthcare needs requires staff to be fully prepared to respond appropriately in the event of a seizure or another medical emergency.

Some children with significant neuromuscular weakness have difficulty maintaining their airways, as they may struggle to take deep breaths or produce an effective cough. Several children attending Craighalbert may require assistance with airway clearance, either occasionally or on a more regular basis. This often involves suctioning to remove upper respiratory secretions, ensuring the child remains comfortable and their airways stay clear.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy aspires to ensure that all the children we work with led full and happy lives.

We focus on helping them participate in meaningful activities (occupations) they need and want to do at school, at home and at play.

We work with children and young people, families, school staff, and the wider team to help overcome challenges relating to daily life activities.
