Craighalbert Secondary

Specialist Secondary: Inspiring ambition, fostering independence, and preparing for the future

At our Specialist Secondary, we nurture potential, foster independence, and inspire lifelong learning for every young person. Our experienced, multidisciplinary team provides the highest level of support in an environment tailored to meet complex communication, learning, health, and care needs.

Our personalised approach focuses on each young person’s goals and aspirations, whether developing communication, daily living skills, social interaction, or preparing for life beyond school. Learning is purposeful, relevant, and empowering.

We work closely with families, therapists, and external partners to create pathways that build skills, confidence, and resilience. With a strong focus on functional learning, personal development, and wellbeing, we help young people prepare for the transitions that matter most.

Communication, choice, and autonomy are central to every experience. Through assistive technology, tailored AAC systems, and highly skilled support, our learners are empowered to lead their learning and shape their futures.

As part of our 'all through school', learners benefit from consistency, continuity, and trusted relationships from nursery to senior phase, helping them feel safe, understood, and ready for what comes next.

Together, we are shaping confident young adults with the tools they need to thrive.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy aspires to ensure that all the children we work with led full and happy lives.

We focus on helping them participate in meaningful activities (occupations) they need and want to do at school, at home and at play.

We work with children and young people, families, school staff, and the wider team to help overcome challenges relating to daily life activities.

Assessment Process

We understand that children’s needs and abilities are diverse and can evolve over time, so we take a flexible and supportive approach to exploring placements in our nursery and school.

We offer specialist education and therapy for children with complex communication, learning, health, and care needs. If you are interested in a nursery or school place, the first step is to contact us to arrange a visit and an initial discussion. This allows our team to get to know your child and family circumstances, and for you to learn more about our approach.

Following this, an assessment will take place to help determine whether a Craighalbert placement would be suitable and beneficial for your child. If a placement is recommended, families will be supported through the process of submitting a placing request to their local authority.

We know this journey can feel overwhelming, and our team will be here to guide and support you every step of the way.
