Specialist Primary:
Building strong foundations

At our Specialist Primary, learning, therapy, and care come together to support each child’s development in a way that’s truly individual. Our highly skilled team works in partnership with families to create meaningful learning experiences that promote communication, confidence, and independence.

We provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where children with complex communication, learning, health, and care needs are supported to explore, discover, and grow. Every moment is an opportunity for progress, whether in the classroom, the therapy space, or in our outdoor learning space.

Each child has a bespoke Child’s Plan, allowing for a personalised learning approach. This is delivered using appropriate access methods to maximise interest, motivation and success. With integrated input from our on-site team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists, every child receives the right support at the right time to help them thrive.

Communication sits at the heart of everything we do. We use a range of AAC tools and strategies to empower children to express themselves, engage with learning, and connect with others.

As part of our 'all through school', pupils can continue their journey with us from nursery right through to the senior phase, benefiting from trusted relationships, consistency, and continuity in learning, therapy and care.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy aspires to ensure that all the children we work with led full and happy lives.

We focus on helping them participate in meaningful activities (occupations) they need and want to do at school, at home and at play.

We work with children and young people, families, school staff, and the wider team to help overcome challenges relating to daily life activities.

Assessment Process

We understand that children’s needs and abilities are diverse and can evolve over time, so we take a flexible and supportive approach to exploring placements in our nursery and school.

We offer specialist education and therapy for children with complex communication, learning, health, and care needs. If you are interested in a nursery or school place, the first step is to contact us to arrange a visit and an initial discussion. This allows our team to get to know your child and family circumstances, and for you to learn more about our approach.

Following this, an assessment will take place to help determine whether a Craighalbert placement would be suitable and beneficial for your child. If a placement is recommended, families will be supported through the process of submitting a placing request to their local authority.

We know this journey can feel overwhelming, and our team will be here to guide and support you every step of the way.
