Specialist Teachers

Promoting curiosity, creativity and a love for learning.

At Craighalbert, our teachers play a vital role in supporting children with complex communication, medical, learning, physical and care needs. They are highly trained professionals with expertise across education, healthcare and therapy, ensuring a joined-up approach that puts your child at the centre.

Every child is unique, so our teachers create personalised learning plans tailored to each pupil’s strengths, needs and interests. They work closely with therapists, nurses and other specialists to support all areas of development — not just learning, but also health, communication, and emotional wellbeing.

Teachers aim to set high, yet realistic goals, celebrating progress big and small. They provide regular updates to families and are always happy to discuss your child’s achievements or any concerns you may have.

More than just qualifications, our teachers bring compassion, creativity and dedication to their work. They take part in regular training to stay up to date with best practice in areas such as communication methods, medical needs, and therapy support.

By combining care, knowledge and a deep understanding of complex needs, our teachers help every child grow in confidence, skills and independence in a safe and supportive environment.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy aspires to ensure that all the children we work with led full and happy lives.

We focus on helping them participate in meaningful activities (occupations) they need and want to do at school, at home and at play.

We work with children and young people, families, school staff, and the wider team to help overcome challenges relating to daily life activities.

How our teachers support your child

Our teaching is flexible and responsive. Teachers observe and assess progress regularly, adjusting strategies to suit each child.

They use:

  • Differentiated teaching methods to suit different ways of learning

  • Assistive and adaptive technologies to make learning more accessible

  • Sensory-based activities to support regulation and engagement

  • Careful pacing to allow time for processing and response
