Drivedeck Trial

On Friday 11th June 2021 we were visited by Smile Smart Technology, who gave us the opportunity to trial their Drivedeck system which is a power platform that can take any wheelchair and allows the child (or adult) to either drive freely using switches or a joy stick; be limited in roaming to a lines laid that the deck follows including potential for junctions; or have transport fully automated following a line from one place to another, either with stop start facility on the journey or without. They facilitate independence and can be used to enhance opportunity for individual exploration, developing confidence, socialisation, increase access to learning, etc . They can also be used as assessment tools to develop skills in using a powerchair or to determine best controls.

The families loved it and the children enjoyed the opportunity to be in control of their movement.
